Give or take about 250 which we might get back if we return all our cardboard cartons to the removers and we are able to get them out of storage before a month.

Comes to a grand total of £8558. For the priviledge of being allowed to move from one bloody house to another. And it hasn't saved us from the stress and misery of the whole horrible process. We are still camping out at my mums (which is fun Hmm). And we still don't know for sure when we are moving in to our new house.

Not to mention the money we've spent trying to keep the DC entertained so they don't wind up my elderly parents too much, and the extra petrol to get me to work and the DC to school when they go back.

My nerves are in shreds and my back balance is the red.

We overpaid our mortgage a few years back and we were planning on using this extra to pay the removal costs and buy new furniture for the house. At this rate we'll have very little left after the vultures have been fed!

I am have said this already but the whole process stinks. Who benefits from it being like this? Not the poor bloody punters Angry

Where I live in (a perfectly ordinary suburb of) London everyone says "oh, we'll have the loft converted for £30,000 cos thats less than the price of moving". And they are mainly right Shock.

Orm - did you move today?

TDaDa · 04/09/2010 09:12

And then there is the cost of fixing and kitting out new house...we always seem to need new curtains for example, , somehow.

Northernlurker · 04/09/2010 09:22

Gosh that is a lot. OUr move cost about £900 in solicitors fees and £400 for movers but we were only moving 1.5 miles from a 2 bed house and the move was very straightforward. Even with a chain of three though we had some anxious moments - I agree that solicitors need to up their game. WE did ok with ours BUT I was on maternity leave and I kept in very close touch with them which helped I think.

Hello!

Yes christina - we moved on Friday! Hurrah hurray halle-bloody-lujah!

It's lovely lovely lovely. We have space, light and no creaking floorboards anywhere. I am in love with my house Grin Inspite of the somewhat hideous decor.

Estate agents fees + stamp duty + removal men + mortgage fees + survey = easy 10k!

OrmRenewed · 09/09/2010 16:39

And now we have all our crap out of storage Sad

It's a mess and there's no room anymore and it's going to take ages to get it all sorted out. But we'll get there.

If you have a decent sized 4 bed house in most parts of London, then its likely to be over £500k and you will be paying 4% stamp duty - yes indeedie - highwaymen are alive and kicking in this neck of the woods.

That's awesome Orm. It's given me hope that this horrible process may actually come to an end at some point! How did moving day go?

We're still looking at the week after next Sad and I am so bloody knackered from commuting to my new job with DCs in tow that I can barely see straight.

I am imagining the space, light and lack of creaking floorboards...
