Is it too near a sewage plant? Anyone know this area?

No idea about the area, just making your link clickable: detached_house

Have a nosy on google earth, also, try to find out the direction of the prevailing wind. That'll make a lot of difference to if it's too close or no.

Not quite sure what happened with the link text there, but it works.

SmellsLikeTeenSweat · 25/08/2010 20:02

Flood risk? I would check that out too.

JenL · 25/08/2010 20:03

Thanks for the link...looks like it's about 300 metres away, now that's pretty close...

TBH the best thing you could do would be to interrogate the locals. Smile sweetly, ring doorbells, just ask. Obviously explain that you're thinking of buying a house in the area.

JenL · 25/08/2010 20:16

Yes, suppose that is the best plan of action...have a viewing booked in for tomorrow morning but just a bit worried that if I already have concerns, re-sale in the future might be an issue...

i cant think of anything redeeming about uxbridge, but know nothing about the sewage plant. would i would say is that its a lot of house for the money so i guess there i some downside..

JenL · 26/08/2010 09:50

Well viewing cancelled. The more I thought about it, the more I felt like I was taking crazy pills...I would never allow a sewage plant to be built near our current home, so why would we move near one?! Goodbye almost-dream house...

Well, there's a very small sewage farm about 400 m from the house we just bought! It is really not a problem. I know that the part of the village upwind of it sometimes gets a whiff, but nothing terrible. We've driven and walked past it loads of times now and you honestly only smell a small whiff right outside it. The prevailing wind seems to be in one direction (away from our new house) and I did ask in the village, and also asked the vendor, who seemed genuinely surprised it even came up. Obviously she's not a source of disinterested information...

Anyway, it's not always a nightmare. (I'll let you know in a year's time!)

It's not Uxbridge, it's Harefield (different kettle of fish altogether!)

Carrie06 · 27/08/2010 09:44

Hi, I live in Ruislip but don't know Harefield that well. However, I think there is a sewage/dump or something like that in Twickenham and apparently the wind blows the smell quite far and the houses in the line of it are quite a bit cheaper. Harefield seems like a nice place but only really ever been through it in a car. Best of luck.
