What flooring for my bathroom?

We've redone the whole place, and have suddenly gone off the floor we chose originally (Karndean slate effect tiles).

Tiles and sanitaryware are all white, with birch coloured units and black mottled worktop. The tile border is lovely flat green glass mosaics.

Still keen on slate effect, but the Karndean seems very multicoloured and that put us off. I'm worried that off-the-roll vinyl will not have such a quality feel, and we've spent so many ££ already that I don't want to bring the place down.

What would you do? Bring out the green? Go dark to pull the worktop together with the rest? It's a smallish room so we don't want anything too wildly variegated, I feel.

Now with pic on profile. If you think we should paint the walls, feel free to tell me about that too Grin.

What about a matt green ceramic floor tile?i think that would look great agree the karndean fake slate is too multi coloured to look authentic.Rubber can look good and is hardwearing and comes in many colours

Thanks Noddy, the idea of green has been really growing on me and your reply has cemented the feeling! I also quite like retaining a faint 1930s flavour (house is 1930), and for me the green colour somehow does that. I was a bit worried about ceramic (chilly, cracks if we drop something), but of course rubber would be cosier.

That typical 1930s green would be fab

Now to convince DP that it's a stylish homage to the history of the house rather than a recreation of a school lavatory.

I love the 1930s green too. We have a 30s house and have Amtico Iced Glass on our bathroom floor - expensive, but our bathroom floor is postage-stamp sized and it's been down for 10 years and still looks fantastic.

Heartsease · 25/08/2010 13:43

Thanks Sinkingfeeling, I was just looking at the Amtico Glacier which I think might be similar. Our bathroom is also tiny so the price per square metre is not a big deal. 10 years is pretty good going!

You could also look at Marmoleum as they do mottled greens.
I do wonder if paiting your window surround white would make your bathroom feel airier (hope its not rude to mention it), like they have done here

Good thinking Panacotta. I'm going to John Lewis late night this evening so can check it out there.

No offence taken about the window! I'm glad anyone cares enough to think about it Grin. I had been thinking about this and am pretty sure you're right. At the moment we've painted the whole house white (covering new plaster) and the windows are the only thing stopping us going snow blind, so we've suprrised ourselves by leaving them as they are, at least until we have some colour on the walls. DP is afraid of too much white but I think there is definitely a case for doing the bathroom window. He wants to paint the remaining 1.5 walls in a pale aqua but I am not really keen.

PS interesting page of pics, I enjoyed them all! I like seeing real life 'grot' fixes. The biggest problem we had getting bathroom inspiration is that so many of the sales images are of humungous spaces with muscular men drinking wine in the bath against a huge window onto a spectacular city skyline.
