Getting a mortgage - what paperwork do we need?

OK. Going to apply for our first mortgage. Also undergoing a serious clean up in our rented house in preperation for the move which involves shredding years worth of papers.

I have tried googling but cannot find a definitive answer anywhere - what paperwork will we need to keep for a mortgage? (i.e. 3 months of bank statements ...) While I am at it, should I be keeping anything else? DH and I are both, and always have been, employed rather than self employed and have never submitted tax returns.

Thanks in advance!

You'll need the latest p60, should have had one around may from your employers, and 3 months of wage slips. Hope that helps!

Just done this although not a first time buyer 3 months of pay slips and your passport should do it. They will also want to know what outgoings you have in the shape of loans etc - it will affect how much they lend you. Best of luck.

They are all different - in the past we've had to give 3 months worth of pay slips AND bank statements, plus contract of employment.

This time round it was just most recent pay slip plus the bank statement showing a credit for that month's pay.

If you have credit cards or any kind of debt they will often want to see statements for those.

Plus finally don't forget money laundering regulations - they need proof of address and proof of ID for each of you.

Also, if your deposit is not in your regular bank account, and is in ISAs or savings accounts, take the statements for those to show that you have it.
