Need somewhere to work from home - no office

Help

I'm working from home. We have a study but DH also works from home and, quite frankly, it's a flea pit and not big enough for 2. Currently I work on the sofa but I need a workspace. Either to use my laptop or just to store my paperwork and stuff (folders, papers etc). I can use DH's printer and wireless modem so there will be none of that gubbins.

I've seen a few things in the IKEA catalogue [http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40146171 here] but it doesnt really go with our house and am worried it will look cheap? Has anyone got any other ideas?

Could the bit under the stairs be adapted??

No, it's got the boiler in it.

One of my friend has her workspace in master bedroom. She has desk there which actually looks bit like dressing table and matching shelf next to it. Not sure where she got it but it goes well with rest of bedroom furniture.

Do you have an alcove in a reception room which you could fit cupboard doors to, which would open up to give a workspace (desk, shelving?), and close when not in use?
Take a look at the Ideal Home magazine website...

I do have an alcove but we are renting at the moment so don't want the expense of putting up shelves.

I think I need a bureau that I can just lock away at night.

I would actually be quite happy working at the kitchen table (plenty of space, good height, comfy seats) but then just need a handy way of packing up all my paperwork at the end of the day.
