...have lived here since we married 11 years ago. Have done ALOT to it over the years, a kitchen diner extension at the back, loft room, refitted bathroom, new boiler etc etc etc.

My dh does not want to move. I do.

We have about 30/40k equity left in the property if valuations I have had are correct.

I am just not sure what I want anymore....I am all for downsizing/selling up and renting somewhere and banking the equity but dh isnt.

On the continent its normal for people to rent all their lives, why not here?

I keep looking around me at my quite nice house and feeling really fed up and trapped. anyone else or just me? Grin

thanks for reading my rantings!

What is it that you are fed up with?

becaroo · 19/08/2010 20:41

Spending money on the house all the time and not having any money to do fun stuff, you know?

Also, really not sure I still want to live in this area...nothing keeping us here IYNWIM?

We've been renting now for 6 years. It's fine for a while but long term not so great. We've been living with lots of jobs needing doing that LL won't do, and finally given 2 months notice cos he needed to sell up!

I agree it can be a financial drain owning property but renting with a family can be very insecure and frustrating.

How about renting out your house for a while and moving somewhere else?

But if you move you will be spending that equity and you may then have to spend even more on new house. We spent loads on our previous house, paid the mortgage off and then became restless......and we then moved up the chain at the top of the market to a money sinking Edwardian house...still licking my wounds from doing so...costing a fortune to get it in reasonable shape.

thanks for the input.

minty Sorry you have only been given 2 months notice. I guess good landlords are rare?

tdiddy That is something I wounldnt do tbh, I have hated having to do all the stuff to this house so wouldnt take on a project....I admire those that do though!

That is why I am dreaming of swapping my Victorian terrace to a modern/no character house or even a flat! Mine is money hole as well. I think I would be better off by selling it, spending 10k on relocating, and then getting something less "character". But then with those 10k I could upgrade my current house quite a lot! Uhrrrrr.. difficult isn't it.

becaroo · 20/08/2010 11:50

toja It is very hard isnt it? I wish in some ways we had never bought this house....it was a rush decision and we have had to spend a lot on it to make it ok. I can see why people buy the characterless boxes...they dont need any work doing to them!!!! Grin

yes, ours was a rushed decision at the top of the market and we have spent a fortune on it...c'est la vie
