Bought an old house - Edwardian - so rooms fairly large. 2 rooms have woodchip (!) wallpaper which I want to get rid of asap. DH is moaning that it is probably there to hide bumpy walls and will prob mean replastering. I think we may just have to reskim.

Anyone any ideas or have a DH who is a plasterer and may know?

Aaargh! magichomes that is not what I needed to hear! Grin He can't be right! He will be insufferable!

Blast. Oh well. Need to figure out what gets dropped from renovation then as I am NOT living with woodchip paper!

Thanks for the advice anyway. Other walls in house seem fine so maybe it won;t be too bad. I hope.

We paid £550 for walls and ceilings in our 27ft (I think!)lounge and £350 in ds's room which is a decent sized double bedroom if that helps you at all.

Hello Buda! We are having lath and plaster taken off upstairs in a bedroom this week. It's like dessert storm. The dust and bits of twig and mess.... I think it might be costing 500 for the walls plus materials the ceiling has just been done as part of larger job so can't give an individual price for that.

I knew we were going to have to bite this particular bullet at some point. Noticed plaster had blown under paper when we looked at the house 9 years ago. Magic Homes, you're right, it's not sexy. But I think I might get a nice cozy almost post-coital feelinh when it's done.

If it helps, we've just taken a load of woodchip off the walls in our 50s semi and the plaster has been absolutely perfect underneath (marker pen message under the paper suggests it was last done in 1974, though that might have been the papering rather than the plastering), so you may be lucky ...

Hi Dukes! LOL at cozy post-coital feeling!!! Grin

Dita - thanks! just what I need to hear. Fingers crossed ours will be the same. Am hoping so. The walls look ok in other rooms.

feedthegoat - thanks too. That sounds ok.
