Finding out when listed house was listed?

I live in a listed house, and have a piece of work that we want to do to it - or rather, undoing a piece of work that the previous owners did (adding in a suspended ceiling, which should have had LBC). I suspect that the work was carried out after the listing took place, and thus my work doesn't need listed building consent, as I'm returning the house to the condition when listed.

Is there a way I can find out when my house was listed without going direct to the Conservation Officer? (I don't want her to think I'm trying to pull a fast one if not necessary, and I've found from experience that our COs are very very cautious.) I'd rather send her a letter giving the date of the installation of the suspended ceiling, and explain our plans.

Thanks, oh listed building ones!

LB Online you can access all records of listed buildings in England (don't know about Wales)

Even if you are reinstating features, do not do any work without checking with the Conservation Officer if LB consent is required. Even if the work is exactly what they want to see, it may still need LB consent.

Thank you SquashedFrogs!

Don't worry - I wasn't going to do the work without getting a letter of consent from the CO, but I didn't want to ask the previous owners to confirm when they'd done the work without knowing a listing date, in case I was wasting their time.

Good luck with it all. Listed buildings are fascinating Smile
