One deep red wall.....?

I have never seen a living room with one deep red wall.....am I crazy? It's a normal sized living room in a normal house - will it look ridiculous? I want to do the dining room the same. One wall painted deep red (not burgundy, but a dark red), and the rest of the walls either cream or mushroom colour. Any comments please!!??!?!

Statement wall!

Very 2002.

noddyholder · 15/08/2010 08:45

No!Agree with bruxeur dated and a bit b and q Sorry!

Hassled · 15/08/2010 08:55

Well I love deep red, and I like the idea of one wall a different, bold, colour so I wouldn't be put off by the datedness/cliche of the idea, but you need it to be a large room, with high ceilings and good natural light. Otherwise it will just look a bit tacky.

i haven't decorated a house since 2002, funnily enough, so I am obviously very out of touch!! I totally agree, thank you. So what about mushroom walls (we have dark brown leather sofas, creamy carpet and ivory coloured fireplace) ? comments please, how do I get some colour in there though, as brown and cream would depress me too much...? - ps can I have a bit of red paint in the conservatory though please?

You can have red throws, cushions, rug with lots of lovely different textures.

Or paint ALL the walls deep red like we did! It looks great. We do have high ceilings though and lots of Japanese prints which have the same reddish colours as well as a lot of cream/blue.

i don't think it's dated, i did one dark blue in the bedroom makes room seem much larger. anyway who cares if it's b and q.

i also painted my living room dark red years ago. it's a bugger to paint over but looked really good.

can't stand boring walls Grin

This isn't a look I want for myself (I would do the cushions thing), but check out the Crown website if you want to get an idea of whether it would work:

Crown

The 3D Rooms tool lets you try different paints in a room setting, with a 'feature wall' and a different paint on the others, so you can experiment with combinations. The room they call 'Timeless Lounge' has brown leather sofas, cream carpet and whitish fire surround.

heh heh. We did indeed paint one wall dark red in our living room (the rest is sort of cream) - in 2002! So Bruxeur is spot-on. I suspect it is a bit dated but most of my friends tell me they really like it. I think, if you like it and think it will make the room seem cosy (it does to ours and looks fab at christmas), then DO IT! Smile Sod it being a few years out of date. If you like the look of something, surely that's more important?

It would remind me too much of Sex and the City, where Carrie says after Big has one wall painted red: "Because, dear friend, you and I are like that red wall. It's a good idea in theory, but somehow it doesn't quite work."

It is a tad sixty minute makeover but if you like it what does that matter. I had one wall a snot green colour in 2006.
