how far to tile

i am currently tiling the bathroom, and for my first time, its actually not looking too badGrin

It is only a small room - basic rectangle with the bath running down the long side opposite the door. I am going to change the bath taps soon to a shower mixer, as there is no room for a separate shower. But, i cant figure out how far up to tile the wall.

I was thinking of tiling from top of bath to ceiling, on the long side and tap side (to protect when the shower is on), and paint the other walls. But then i read on here that tiling like that makes the room look even smaller, and should tile to en even height all the way roundConfused. But if i do that, then i would either have to tile to head height all the way round, which would only leave about 2ft to paint (would that look odd) or tile half way up and leave the shower.

I am going round in cirles. am already half way up on the bath wall with the tiles - so need some quick advice pleaseGrin

I would do to cieling on the long wall and wall where shower will be, and paint the rest.

V.impressed you are doing the tiling yourself!

Agree: long wall and shower wall, both up to ceiling.

What are you doing about a splashback for the basin?

will do the splashback, i actually forgot about the tiles there, so need to remove them firstBlush Now that i am looking at the sink though, i may end up tiling all around it, as the window is directly above, so tiles would only go to sink height. Then paint around the window and the remaining walls. Would that look too missmatch thoughConfused

Notasize, it is actually pretty easy, although i havent tried to cut any yetHmm They are 20 x 25 tiles, so i think if i am doing the full wall, i will get a row of border tiles as well, to go about 3/4 of the way up. Now i need to figure out how to tile round the extracter fan, that doesnt actually workHmm as that means slanty cutsConfused

I think that would look fine. The window is a natural 'break'.
