I know I am coming across as totally thick :) but can someone please help me convert from inches to metres and then square metre flooring. I need to put laminate flooring through my flat but cannot work out exactly what I need.

ie: Front room is 133 inch wide by 210 inches long. which i have worked out to be 3.38m wide by 5.34 L (please feel free to correct me) so how do I now do the square feet that I need and then work out how many boxes to buy :(

many thanks in advance

nah, you're not thick :)

Do they sell it in sq feet or metres? (yeh I know they sell it in boxes...)Grin

Is the flat totally square/rectangular? Or are there alcoves and stuff? If there are 'extra' bits, including doorways and stuff - then you might need a bit extra. Treat the room as rectangular - but to all the widest points. If it helps (and it does for me) then draw it out on squared paper Wink

18.05sq m btw. Which sounds like a big flat?

justsue · 09/08/2010 22:43

Ok "boxes" was a stupid word. see what I mean totally novice to all this.

they are selling it in square feet. the flat is rectangular rooms pretty basic, no alcoves etc. Literally front room is eg 17ft by 12ft.

So how do I work out the square feet (confused)

Multiply the length x width to get square metres: 3.38 x 5.34 = 18.06 square metres. then divide by the square metres per pack, say 2.5:

18.06/2.5 = 7 and a bit, so you need 8 packs, nine if you are feeling cautious.

Forget about inches and feet, stick to metres for measuring things.

justsue · 09/08/2010 22:47

ok how about I be really cheeky and list all the measurements and then you work it out :) :) or is that to cheeky in a nice way of course lol

OK, the same in feet (x post)

17x12 = 204 square feet. So you should buy say 220 square feet or whatever is a round number of packs.

see what I mean straight over my head :(

lounge is 133 inch wide
210 inch long

which I have worked out to be

3.8 m by 5.34m

bed 1 is 114 inch wide
168 inch long

wich i think is

2.9m by 4.3m

Bed 2 is 93 inch wide
168 inch long

2.4m by 4.3m

am really struggling to work it out and I have worked in finance all my life grrrrrr

thanks for all helping a dumb blonde :)

so you're confused?

Me too Grin - And the boxes was my idea of being witty [shocking sense of humour emoticon]

Right, can we do this slowly please...
113" by 210" = 9 1/2 feet by 17 1/2 feet

which is 10ft by 18ft in simple lingo.
= 180 square ft

166 and a quarter square feet if we're gonna be picky and figure out all the halves.

Unless I can't add up Confused

gigglewitch · 09/08/2010 22:55

I'm lmao cos we are all coming up with different answers Confused

oopsGrin

justsue · 09/08/2010 23:02

ok slowly then :)

"boxes" they looked like long ones to me ha ha

3.38m x 5.34m is 180 square feet

which started out as 133inch by 210inch

:)

am I getting there lol
