Talk to me about renting a washing machine.

We are moving from London into a house in Somerset without a washing machine. We are trying to buy a place in Bath (haven't found it yet) so we are loathe to buy a washing machine and pay for it to be plumbed in etc. for the few months in that house incase our new house has integrated appliances (it may not!).

So we were thinking of renting one. ANy advice? anyone done it before? Only things I can find online is that you often need to rent it for 18months which is obviously no good to us.

When we moved out of a previous rented house we had our own washing machine, fridge etc, but was such a hassle to move with it when we moved into another place that we sold our white goods to the landlord. We then contacted our local white goods store and they rented a washing machine and fridge to us for £5 and £6 respectively.

Yes we had to use it for long term and when we moved again we didnt need the fridge and by then had our baby and we asked them if we could rent a tumble drier which we paid £4 a month for. We signed a contract and not once did we pay a deposit. After a while we paid them a little lump some and bought it from the shop so now we own it and it costs way cheaper then we would have paid for it cash when we needed it.

Another thing is its always brand new and if anything should go wrong they come out immediately and fix it free of charge and will also offer to move it and installed it themselves.

I'd buy a cheap second hand one - surely its not that much to get them plumbed in is it? DP always does ours anyway (not a plumber but if the pipes are there he claims I could do it myself)

People (including me) sell washing machines on eBay - I bought one for £100 (including delivery by the seller whose garage was being cluttered up by it) for my brother then, a couple of years later sold it for the same.

We currently rent a washer-dryer from Forbes because we get a better machine than we'd be able to buy outright plus the repair service is same-day (if you ring before 10am).

You don't need to pay someone to plumb in a washing machine - get the hoses and screw them on to the fittings. I've always done ours.

i have always plumbed in my washing machines myself, but at moment rent from forbes because i wanted a big expensive bosch that i couldnt afford to buy.
