Range cooker question

We want a stainless steel duel fuel range cooker for under £1000.

We have seen the stainless steel equivalent to thisLeisure one which got a fantastic write-up in Which?

Has anyone got a Leisure cooker and if so are you pleased with it. The only thing I don't like on it is the glass top. Can you remove it? Otherwise can you recommend any stainless steel cookers by other companies.

Also, do I need to get a hood as well? Does it have to be by the same company?

I looked at Leisure v brittania and was taken away by the build quality of the brittania. The shop said there was no comparison.

There are variations of quality with s/s and I felt as though the Leisure was a little tinny.

On the otherhand a brittania is twice the price of the leisure. ANd you can build a brittania up to yr specification. I made the mistake of going for a 50/50 split with the ovens when I should of gone 3/4 as the oven is the same size as a standard oven. Mine is dual fuel ie electric fan oven, gas top.

Hoods can come from any manufacture but make sure you get the same length as cooker - otherwise the steam and smells can miss the extract and is pointless - in a commercial kitchen the extract should be slighty wider and longer than the cooker - dont be taken in by sellers telling you it wont matter as I had a smaller extract and the steam was going in the walls. Also noise and extraction rates v inportant. Pref always go for external extract. Once again the quality of the materials as some mark terrible with some cleaners. Price wise £300 - £1200 upwards.

Elica is known as excellent quality for domestic. Brittania good but pricy.

another vote for Brittania, they are incredibly solid and built to last. We bought one second hand on ebay and are very happy with it.

a possibility?

Britannia

i totally disagree about britannia. i regret spending a fortune on ours - my mum's cheap oven is much, much better. i think they are overpriced and unreliable. it looks great but, as a keen cook, i am more interested in the performance.

otoh maybe i have just been unlucky with mine?

I love my caple s/s duel fuel. Never thought I would use it but the rot
isserie in the smaller oven is fab.

i just bought mine i looked at the leisure but it looked vey cheap and plasticy in the shop! make sure you view cooker BEFORE you buy, phone the shop and ask them where one is on display so you can see it . i bought the kenwood range its stainless steel and looks very expensive!

I have a ss britannia duel fuel and have had a few minor problems with it but the customer service has been excellent. Only downside for me is that it is awful to clean the hob (gas x 6 burners) and the little silver bits that let the gas flow are permanently black and nothing gets them clean that I have found! Dont want to put you off but not sure Id buy another!

After having Neff appliances without a hitch for most of my years in the kitchen, we decided on a Neff Duel Fuel Range cooker. Bit more expensive than other males but IMO they are more reliable and efficient than others we tried before.
