Our flat has sold, we're about to leave London and suddenly I've got the Fear. Positive stories needed!

Is this plan sensible?

I am going to hand in my notice in a few weeks and hopefully freelance and have a better work/life balance living in a cheaper area of the country by the sea (buying house mortgage free). I am fairly sure I can get enough work to keep going - I have some promised - but obviously nothing is certain. But I have savings so we can live for a couple of years off those if needs be.

The schools are much better where we're going, I will be around for the school gate and assemblies which I can't be if I stay here and I think our quality of life will be better.

So why am I feeling all wobbly?? I need reassurance that this is a very good idea and we will live happily ever after please

But London isn't the only place that hairdressers hang out! (I currently live in Cheshire but go to Cardiff for my haircuts )

30andMerkin · 27/07/2010 18:05

That was based on the fact they'll still be 45 mins out of london...

Am impressed with your dedication to follicular perfection though!

aw ladybiscuit... I know who you are too . Everything will be fine! At least you ahve a starting point for making friends with your ds.

I'm most intrigued to learn that you grew up abroad - I never knew that!

cyteen · 27/07/2010 18:59

Now I want to know who you are, kiwibella

I know what rube posted.

Want me to put you out of your misery. ?

Yes, tell me cheggers! Was it something about Londoners pushing up prices? That would be a reasonable challenge. Thanet isn't generally considered desirable but I can understand the pissed-offness. I have been very, very lucky with property - I happened to buy my first flat just as the market was coming out of the gloom of the 80s. I can't take any credit for it but I'm not going to apologise. I had a deposit of £10k which was a combination of saving and some money my gran left me.

Hello kiwi!

Oh and I won't miss the cost of haircuts - my last one (which is so subtle it's gone unnoticed) cost £50 and I paid £12 to have my 3YO's cut the other day

Yes, see your point now Merkin Actually my hair is a state because we haven't been to visit DMIL for far too long

I want to know what Rube said too

chegggersplayspop · 28/07/2010 20:33

Well, sorry to disappoint you, it was quite boring really! It was a (v long and detailed) advert for a flat rube had to rent. In London. Bit daft to post on a thread about leaving London, obv a bit

LadyBiscuit · 28/07/2010 22:12

That is very dull cheggers I was hoping for a bit of a ruck

Ohh, nice to read all these positive I-left-london-and-it's-great stories!!

We're moving to the South West in 3 weeks, but we havn't sold our house - so we'll be living with my parents until we do. Gulp. But I hope it will be worth it in the end, when we're settled in our new home in a (largish) country town, with better schools and more money (a bit) and a bigger garden and a more chilled out lifestyle.... (blind optimism)
