conveyancing - recommendations

I am getting confused with conveyancing options.
We've used online conveyancing for remortgages and they were fine. But for house sale/purchase has anyone foudn them to be ok? I'd prefer to have a named person (pref a solicitor) handling the case rather than some sort of call centre set up.

We used online conveyancing for a straightforward house purchase, it was fine, however, we found one with a office fairly nearby on the reasoning that we could visit in person if necessary, felt more reassured that way about transferring our life savings into their account! Our estate agent had also heard of him, so that also helped calm nerves. In the event, everything was handled online/by phone apart from delivering/collecting some documents for ease/speed. We had one named solicitor who handled the case throughout, queries were handled promptly, a few worrying delays right at the end, but overall we were happy and it was MUCH MUCH cheaper than what we were quoted by local solicitors.

Personally I would always go to a proper solicitor with a proper office. Find one who is a member of the law society through their website:
(just put conveyancing under area of law in the search box)
