Tiles or lino? What's on your bathroom floor ?

The man who is doing my bathroom thinks I need a tiled floor - proper ceramic/ stone ones. I'd rather have lino (but one that looks like white tiles, probably) because it is warmer & easier to pull up if I want to. What do you have and why?

Karndean for 10 years and it's still lovely.MIL just had hers done with white marble effect and a thin silver line between each tile.

we've got tiles in our bathrooms but not sure I'd have it done again. They were only done a few years ago but already the tiles in the en-suite (which has not been used that much) are creaking when they are walked on and the grouting in between has cracked and come out in places. Am wondering perhaps if they weren't laid particularly well.

Just in the process of doing the bathroom in mum's house and am thinking of going with lino as opposed to tiles.

We've got black porcelain tiles. They're cold to stand on, and look dusty within a few hours of cleaning them, so I wouldn't get them again.

In our next house DP & I will probably go for Karndean / Amtico flooring in the bathroom.

We've got orange sparkly commercial vinyl. It's fab and I love it!

We have tiles in another room and they're horrible. They look quite good but are hard, cold and slippery. We'll be laying carpet over them when we can afford it.

I used to have carpet in my bathroom - it was great. But it didn't have a shower (had a separate shower) so it wasn't a major issue. Then we rented the house out so got faux-mosaic lino which was fine.

Now I have ceramic tiles - bloody cold and hard but I have a thick bathmat. It is nice not to have to worry about the floor getting wet, especially as DS finds the shower hose fascinating and fun, but you do pay for it in terms of loss of comfort.

I have decided to go with vinyl/ lino stuff. If my builder can't lay it, I'll see about Karndean. I need to google the other stuff,

Thanks for your help

lino. Much warmer (no underfloor heating), not slippy when wet, no worry about grubby-looking grout, easy as pie to sweep.

welcome grockle (intresting choice of name )

i have a dilemma -

which floor for a bathroom with concrete floor, which runs into futility room, and then into (mixed concrete and floorboard) kitchen.

it might look much better if there was the same floor in all three rooms (Currently vinyl tile in two different shades and carpet tile).

PussinJimmyChoos · 24/07/2010 20:18

Another thing about tiles, is if you drop something in the bathroom and chip a tile, it ruins the whole look

We have tiles in our kitchen. I dropped a saucepan one day and now have a chip on the floor that we haven't fixed as floor was already there when we moved in so no matching tiles and cannot be bothered with the hassle of it

Totallyfloaty35 · 24/07/2010 22:24

I have Amtico Glass floor, looks pretty,is not cold or slippy and is easy to clean.

thumbwitch · 25/07/2010 01:14

EAP - there is (admittedly might not be your choice) faux floorboard vinyl that you can get - perhaps you could lay that throughout up to the real floorboards?

Some of them are really good at non-slip surfaces now, even when wet, so might work for you.

duplotogo · 25/07/2010 01:41

We have ceramic tiles because that is what came with the house. They are dangerously slippy and I don't like them. I would prefer Amtico.

solo · 25/07/2010 01:59

I have tiles and they are great with a little boy in the house!

scottishmummy · 25/07/2010 02:04

slate tiles

SE13Mummy · 25/07/2010 22:06

Bamboo - it's gorgeous.

EnglandAllenPoe · 26/07/2010 15:47

i like faux floorboard vinyl.

the only prob with vinyl is if stained, you have to replace the lot, rather than a single tile...

husband just fited a bamboo floor and it looked great (though for kitchen living room) does it stand up to regular wetting?

solo · 27/07/2010 01:46

My friend has the faux floorboard lino in her kitchen and it looks fabulous! I'd love it.
