Damp proof course thingummy

We are in the process of rejuvenating the broken shell of a house we have just bought. One thing which came up in the survey is the high levels of damp, which the surveyor thought might be partly attributable to rising damp (and partly to the flood in the house over winter). He's suggested getting someone to look at the damp proof course thingummy but I have no idea who I would get to do this and how I would find them. Erm as you can tell, I'm a bit clueless about this whole area tbh Any suggestions on where to start? Ta

Look in the Yellow Pages for 'Damp Proofing'. Such a company will come to your house and do a damp survey (usually free) and recommend the required work.

Thanks Should I be trying to get a personal recommendation from someone?

Glad to hear the damp survey should be free as we're definitely on a budget. At one point the mortgagee wanted a report on the damp (later changed their minds) and the only quote I got was £180

Well I may be talking nonsense then - I'm sure we didn't have to pay for the one we had 6 years ago.
