Moving furniture

We need to do some major reorganisation of our furniture largely due to the impending arrival of baby number 2, but DH can't do it on his own - it involves moving large sofas, wardrobes and double beds - and I am no use at the moment.

Just wondering if anyone has experience of getting a removal company to do this kind of stuff for them, and if so, which one would you recommend?

Any tips gratefully received!

You must know someone who would assist for a couple of bottles of wine and a takeaway? Removal firms would take the piss, I fear.

yes- neighbours/friends would surely do it to help you out? I know DH and I would be willing to muck in like this for alcohol to help friends out.

Where do you live? I bet if you put a call out in chat offering eg £50 (I dont know if thats fair- depends how much you have to move?)I bet you would be inundated with offers from MNers and their DHs.

Hmmm. Makes me feel like a right Billynomates, but we are in London and I have to say that the friends I would feel comfortable about asking for this sort of favour don't really live close enough to make it realistic...

Thanks for the suggestions though.

Its a shame we live in the North East, or would offer! Did you contact any removal cos?

shame you aren't near us. I'm getting new wooden flooring in the next few weeks and as DH is away I'm in a panic about how I'm going to move all the furniture in and out on my own. I could have helped your DH and he could have helped me!

You could ask a local handyman (and his mate) to do it for you? They tend to charge on an hourly rate so would prob be your cheapest option.
