Roof light/tube

We're about to floor over our stairwell to create an extra room in the loft. I was thinking about putting a light tube or a window in the floor of the attic room to let light through the ground/1st floor stair and landing.

Anyone done this ? any tips ?

Yes, I had a Sunpipe put in a few years ago. It's brilliant. We could only fit the smallest size available because of the joist spacing in the attic, but it lets in loads of light. Mine was put in by a roofing company (one of the Sunpipe approved installers) and took less than a day.

We've just had a Solartube put in ds2's bedroom. It's really good, lets in lots of light. It was quite pricey (we went for a rigid one as they let in more light, but they do cost more). It was fitted by our regular builder with the help of some roofers and took about a day.

We have a sunpipe. It does let a fair bit of light in. Our builder put it in with the help of some roofers when we had the extension done.

We had two put in to bring light into our landing. Really made a difference. Can't remember which company we
used but got them to do the installation which only took a few hours. My only regret is not getting the ones with integral lighting so have separate light fittings. Integral would have looked neater in hindsight...

Can any you remember roughly the cost ? is it hundreds ?

TIA

They are great about £500 for a smallish one I think Rigid ones are definitely best if you can afford it

Think ours was £450 including installation
