How cheeky is this suggestion?

Our purchase is looking a bit shakey but the latest request is that whilst we should exchange next week, the vendor wants us to complete at end of Sept; we'd already agreed in principle to end of August. Apparently this is not a deal-breaker though.

So, would it be cheeky of us to say we agree on the basis that she leaves all of the curtains and blinds - she is currently just leaving just the 2 toilet blinds and even taking curtain poles so that she can 'save money'.

Delaying does cost us money in terms of another month's rent which would pay for a lot of curtains and blinds and obviously we couldn't move in until bedrooms had window covering.

Do let me know if we sound like we're taking the proverbial.

I don't think it's cheeky to ask for something given they want you to delay completion. Do you actually want her curtains though? they might be hideous!

They are no too bad and to be honest putting up curtains and blinds is not our favourite past time. I'd rather have the time to choose something nice at leisure rather than have to buy rubbish is a rush just to have to replace them when we find what we really want.

Ask away - I bet she will be glad not to have to take the stuff with you. The "saving money" line was probably a prompt to get you to offer something for them. Alternatively, you could ask her to pay that month's rent

I've heard of people getting their rent paid if buyers or sellers are delaying completion. But if the purchase is already shakey, maybe you don't want to push it? I certainly think it's worth a shot. I think the worst they would say is no, but I don't tihnk they would pull out becasue of it.

diggingintheribs · 14/07/2010 19:57

Not cheeky at all - just make sure you get the fixtures and fittings list updated correctly so there's no comeback

ultimately it doesn't matter to you but it matters to them.

and you can move in without window coverings! - you'll just have to cover them with blankets until you can sort out the bedroom ones - oh and don't walk around naked!!

I've sent an e-mail to our solicitor with our suggestion. Our total rent and storage costs for the period between the completion date we were advised of before we even made an offer and the new suggested date are c.£3,400. DH has also informed me that he'll be at project-end at work; this normally means 2 weeks of 18 hour days for him so I'll be packing, moving, and putting up curtains etc whilst looking after 2 toddlers - I want those curtains now!

I'm expecting the vendor to tell us she won't sell now but I think she's looking for a reason to pull out anyway.

Our suggestion has been met with silence.

Our solicitor said that vendor's solicitor said vendor is on holiday but is contactable so that shouldn't be delaying the reponse.

I don't buy her excuses thus far about needing to save money - she's on her third holiday that I'm aware of since we put in our offer.

I getting right-royally annoyed by her delaying tactics.

Should say 'I'm getting'.

I would just push ahead with exchange and keep the completion date as end august

if she wants to change completion date make it clear that she needs to make the moves

if she delays exchange you need to consider f you should be looking for somewhere else

By the end of the day her solicitor said that he had still been unable to speak to her and was going to drop a letter around to her house. She is taking the proverbial.

We'll say to our solicitor that we expect an answer re: completion date and the quid pro quo if we are to extend by close of business Monday and expect to exchange by close of business Tuesday or it's no deal.

Not sure if I should go to see EA who is part of the same company as the vendor's solicitor.
