Can damp be a health hazard for a 5 y/o?

Hi,

I have just moved into a lovely recently re-developed rented flat with my newish dp and 5 y/o dd. Noticed last week that there was a large damp patch on the external wall of dd's bedroom, spoke to landlord and he said it looks like the flat roof is leaking and he is going to get it fixed.

The trouble is he is away all week so the repair can't be done yet and the damp patch is getting worse due to loads of rain. The wet paint is making a chemically smell in the room and I'm a little worried this may affect dd.

Also, as a side issue, there is a small damp patch in our bedroom too, which is due to a cold spot as it is in the basement of the building and whilst I am not worried for dp and myself, I am pregnant and the new baby will be in with us when s/he is born.

I am probably over-reacting, but dp seems completely unconcerned, whereas I am worried. I would like to look for somewhere else once the baby comes, but he doesn't, because of the cost (money being tight-ish as I am not working at the mo due to just moving to the area and finding out I'm pregnant).

So is there a risk to children, or am I being completely hormonal?

The landlord says it will be fixed and it shouldn't cause you any problems short term. Open the windows. You could buy a dehumidifier if you are worried.
