dry rot diagnosis - HELP

we are trying to sell our house and our would be buyer's survey turned up possible dry rot in the former boiler room. they want to have a closer inspection (including removing floorboards which i said no to) - but i want to have a second opinion. My concerns are that the firm checking for dry rot will be the ones employed to treat it for dry rot -- so why should they say it is not dry rot, if you see what i mean. Please can someone give me advice to make sure we are able to get an independent, reputable firm to have a look at it please?

thanks

Where abouts are you? We used a very good independant firm in London that just survey and evaluates damp problems and doesn't actually do the work, so we trust them completely.

I think if they want to have a second opion you can say you agree, but only if it is a company that doesn't have an interest in finding rot, ie, a surveyor but not a company that treats rot. Worst case you have to get your own such survey to counter any price reductions they ask for.
