Car Boot Prices

We are doing our first ever car boot sale next weekend. It has been a long time since I last went to one so we have no idea how to price our stuff.
We are selling off all of DD's baby/toddler clothes and stuff. I am bundling up the vests and babygros into groups of 5...roughly how much would you pay for 5 (still white) vests or 5 baby gros? We have tonnes of trousers, dresses, t-shirts, socks, jumpers etc. They are all still in great condition, most makes are Scandinavian or JoJoMaman/Next/Gap etc. We also have lots of Clarks shoes and other Scandinavian makes.
Any help is very much appreciated.
Many thanks.

Hi, I go to a lot of carboots. Generally round my way (south east) if you want things to go it is 20p per bodysuit and 50p per sleepsuit. Other clothing can vary a lot depending on make, but roughly 50p-1.50 for tops depending on condition and £1-£3 for trouser etc depending on make and condition.

I did a carboot a few weeks ago, and although I was hardly asking anything for clothes that were in excellent condition nothing sold, so I am going to try and sell some bundles on ebay.

You seem to have some good makes of clothes, so you might be better off selling them on ebay. The same goes for the shoes. I have never got more than £2 per pair of clarks or startrites even when they have been in virtually unworn condition.

I did a car boot today and made £150 which included a pushchair and highchair so was well chuffed.
Anyway, clothes that I hung up in sets eg, dresses and cardies, dungarees with a t-shirt sold really well for up to £2 a go. Displayed on a clothes hanger. Found people didn't want loose clothes and certainly didn't want to rummage! Was glad I did a bit of preparation. Sold virtually all my 'hung up ' clothes.
Shoes in boxes (clarks and startrite) didn't go at all . People bought flip flops, jelly shoes, sandals, trainers and slippers that were bound with an elastic band!
Hope that helps.

You may find some takers on mn's sale board too. Definitely ebay the skandi stuff- goes for a fortune.

suwoo · 26/04/2009 20:55

Ditto eachpeach's advice. I will buy scando boys stuff.

EachPeachPearMum · 26/04/2009 21:11

erm no suwoo - I'm first!

She did say 'dd's' stuff though....

suwoo · 26/04/2009 21:22

Balls! Well I'll fight you for the unisex stuff then

usernametaken · 26/04/2009 22:07

LOL at the fight over the Scandi stuff!

Thank you for all your tips and advice, it has been really helpful.

So, lovely weather we are having eh? BTW how old is your dd? And, Erm.. where abouts will you be doing you car boot?

suwoo · 26/04/2009 22:25

Get outta here, King Canute. Its mine, all mine...

KingCanuteIAm · 26/04/2009 22:32

Shucks...

Seriously Op, with the kind of clothes you are talking about you may well be better with Ebay. It is highly likely you will make far more. For some reason people don't like to pay more than 50p/£1 for clothes at a boot sale, even if (or especially if) they would make £5/£10 on ebay!

louisphoebe · 26/04/2009 23:09

HI i am very interested - my dd is a very small 18 months if you have anything my e-mail is [email protected]

usernametaken · 27/04/2009 14:26

Thank you all. I shall sell off the UK stuff at the carboot sale and then ebay most of the Scandi stuff. Excellent advice all round, thanks.

Baby/kids clothes sell really well at NCT sales if you look on the website for nearly new sales in your area-you can also sell other baby equipement/toys at these sales at a higher price than car boot sales.

TeaSleepFood · 28/04/2009 09:45

Come on OP, you've got all excited. Can you posst some on MN for sale board?

usernametaken · 29/04/2009 16:52

LOL- give me some time to wash and iron the stuff. I am seriously lacking in skill at that ironing activity so it may take a while! Besides there is 4yrs of stuff to get through which currently looks like a small mountain!
