My DCs are hooked on Anne Frank...just saw this...

Ever since The Diary of Anne Frank was on the TV recently my DCs (8-12yrs) have been a bit obsessed with the whole Holocaust story.

I've been careful to shelter them from the whole horror, while being pleased that they are interested (I do think there are lessons to be learnt from the past).

Anyway, I just saw this with a reduced price so I rang them to ask if it was really child friendly and they assured me that it's great for kids that age (and older). Wondered if anyone else has been?

I dunno to be honest. I went to the Imperial War Museam a couple of years ago and they had a Holocaust exhibition and an old jewish man was sitting in the corner of the room crying.

I found it very upsetting.

when i went to imperial war museum last summer, they wouldnt let my dc's in except the 15 year old and i am glad, it was horrific.

but this has been designed for primary school children, the imperial war museum exhibition wasn't.

hmm part of me feels uncomfortable with the sound of that exhibition, don't know why really.

i think it should be something children learn about at a later age. i remember being devastated hearing all about it from a young age and i couldn't understand the ins and outs and it just gave me nightmares.

I went here as part of my teacher training at Leicester Uni. I found it very interesting and informative. The main thing I remember about the day was a talk given by a Jewish lady who had been evacuated from Germany as a child and never seen her parents again. She was very positive and uplifting and I think this is the overall aim of the museum. I don't specifically remember that much about Anne frank but it is definitely appropriate for kids 8+ I would say. They do WW2 in Year 4 which is age 8 anyway so they do hear about it.

jetheather, that was what I thought. It's on the national curriculum, and I know that lots of local schools go - primary and secondary. Might give it a go...and feed back
