I bought three skirts in the week or so before christmas, two at £15, one at £18, they have now increased to £25, and £30..how strange!, unless it's a tactic so that any further reduction is based on the current price.

That's exactly what it is, Tesco's have done this for years.

I haven't bought anything in the debenhams sale, which is unusual for me. There was more choice and reductions when they did their sale at end nov/beginning Dec. Everything I looked at for my son only had 20-30% off if anything. No big discounts whatsoever. The Next sale was even worse, nothing to fit little boys between the age of 6mths to 4 years at all. Very disappointed this year and haven't got anything in the sales.

Yes ofcourse PuzzleRocks, I had forgotten that. I'm surprised they do that with clothes though as they were originally reduced as they were for the partyseason and now there are hardly any sizes left. That is interesting re Next and sales generally saraken. Last year M and S had lots of amazing online reductions things that were £15 to £3, but that didn't seem to be the case this year.

It's a common tactic. Our local Sainsbo's has 3 for 2 on its bakery items. All bakery items have gone up by 10p individually though to compensate.

I am thoroughly ashamed of my knowledge of Sainsbo's gingerbread bakery.

because this time round retailers are being more cautious. they haven't bought as much stock as there is less expectation it will sell. any excess stock went in the 20% event days etc.

Woolworths even did a similar thing - their lego sets had stickers with approx £10 off in the non-sale period but when the sale started they had taken the stickers off and just put a banner saying 20% off which was actually a slight increase in price for some of the sets. -- Do they think we're stupid?
