Getting a bit worried about all these littlewoods/marshall ward /additions etc codes

look here

Apparently the group have past history for giving the money off and then taking it back months down the line when it's too late to do anything about it.

There's now apparently a £50 off a £50 spend code. How can that be anything but a scam on littlewoods part? They want people to spend more than they intended, but they never intend to honour the code.

I've used a couple of these codes myself, but I'm thinking of returning the stuff as it looks like a total scam to me.

BTW I'm not linking to the offer I mentioned as I think no-one should use it, people will end up getting themselves into trouble.

argh, what do you mean they take it back?

Bucharest · 02/12/2008 10:01

Just looked at your link and it seems to be a voucher that was misused where they tried to get the money back...
Fingers crossed.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 02/12/2008 10:08

They can't ask for the money further down the line, they can refuse or cancel your order at the time and refund the money you would have paid, they can't let you have goods at a particular price, and then months later say 'hang on we'll have another £25 please', that would be highly illegal.

Or more correctly they would be within their rights to ask, but you would be well within your rights to tell them to piss off.

trixymalixy · 02/12/2008 10:20

It's in the terms and conditions of their website that if you use a voucher that wasn't intended for your use then they can take the extra cash from you.

They were apparently perfectly within their rights ewhen they did it last year. It was only when Martin Lewis intervened that they refunded people's money.

i,m returning my stuff i only bought stuff as it has money off otherwise i would,nt have bothered plus the half price leaptser 2 said reduced to £25 but i got charged £50

HappyMummyOfOne · 02/12/2008 10:37

That code for £50 was very specific in its terms. Their terms and conditions make it very clear that if the code was not personally issued to you then they have the right to recoup any monies at a later date.

After the saga last year on MSE, the law was on their side as their T&C's are very clear and water tight. MSE did warn everyone re using the codes in future.

MimieD · 02/12/2008 10:44

I got a letter from MW offering £30 off my 1st purchase. Code didn't work so I contacted their client services who advised to order my stuff, advise them what I wanted to keep upon receipt and they they would refund the mopney afterwards if the code was valid...yeah right....

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 02/12/2008 10:54

But how can they take the cash? I am obviously missing something, they can't just take money from your account without your authorisation.

Surely software that would allow a code to only be used against an account that it had been issued against would not be hard to install.

It's just sloppy and deceptive imo.

Bucharest · 02/12/2008 11:05

The whole thing is a bit misleading....(see my other thread on this...)
I've emailed them and asked for clarification.....

HappyMummyOfOne · 02/12/2008 11:14

"2.3 Where you have redeemed a promotional code or any other offer ("a Code") against your order, acceptance of this order is subject to our verifying that the Code has been issued to you personally, that you comply with all the terms of the offer and qualify for the Code. In the event that the Code has not been issued to you for your personal use or you do not qualify for the offer, the price of the order will be adjusted notwithstanding any email or other confirmation that you receive."

They are not taking money without authorisation though as it tells you they will if the code was not issued to personally. Therefore when you accept the T&C's (which you have to do to place an order) you are accepting responsibility for using the code and its conditions.

Simple rule is, dont use a code that hasn't been issued to you personally unless you can afford the risk and dont mind paying the full cost price at a later date.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 02/12/2008 11:20

I'm still not convinced that is legal, just because it is in their T and C.

You cannot sell goods at one price and then change your mind, regardless of the reason.

You can cancel and refuse to supply.it is their error in allowing a customer to use to code.

Bucharest · 02/12/2008 11:50

Yes, I agree. Surely, as someone has said, their own software should be tweaked to either allow input of the code or not?
Has anyone received all 3 items at the proper coded price yet? To stop the mass hysteria?

weepootle · 02/12/2008 21:41

I got a Leapster 2 plus 2 games from Marshall Ward (Littlewoods) using the £30 off £60 code.

I've just checked my credit card statement and they took payment for each item individually: £20 per game, £25 for the console and £4 delivery, on the same day they credited my card with £30 as per the code.

Btw, the code wasn't personally issued to me- I got it on here.

headscrewedonmum · 03/12/2008 09:00

weepootle-It did the same for me.
I have shopped with Additions for years and if you input a invalid code it declines it before you even fully checkout.

Bucharest · 03/12/2008 12:32

Hello Headscrewedon I think my order has sorted itself out now...one item delivered, the full price for that item taken, but then £30 refunded on it.....and 2 items pending, one of which is showing £0.00.xx

amazonianadventure · 08/12/2008 21:23

They have taken the whole amount off me and I havent recieved any items as yet.I hope they do refund me £30 but to be honest the stuff I bought wasnt any more expensive than in game etc so I will keep the stuff.

Would be nice to have a bargain tho!

MerlinsBeard · 08/12/2008 21:32

you did look at the dates no those posts didn't you? Its not a new thing its a year old

meandbump · 10/12/2008 09:58

i got a letter through the door saying that i could have £30 off when i spend £60 with this code but know there saying that because its not my first order then i cant have it so why did they send it god it makes me so mad

Bucharest · 10/12/2008 14:56

There's now a new code ZG862 (I think) which seems not to be just for new customers...I was emailed it by them as a result of opening an account for the other code...

kyrasmummy · 10/12/2008 21:42

I was emailed the code by them for £30, i have used littlewoods/marshallward/additions for years to use these codes and no problems yet..

meandbump · 11/12/2008 08:26

yeah thats the code that i got to i might use it then and hope for the best
