Where is Lapland Uk?

Lazarou · 02/09/2008 11:19

Wasn't there a thread about lapland uk that kicked off? I'd never heard of it before.

theirmum · 02/09/2008 12:33

its in Kent I was going to go with my Dh and kids but its really expensive £80 each so cant go but someone may be wanting to go and havent got the email so though I would offer it here before binning it

zippitippitoes · 02/09/2008 12:37

80 quid each that is insane

theirmum · 02/09/2008 12:40

I know thats what I though but someone may have that sort of money to spend it does include dinner

I'd be interested in the email (portandlemon at live dot co dot uk).

IIRC last year there was variable pricing so that (for example) if you went on a weekday in mid-November it was quite reasonable while if you wanted to go the weekend before Christmas you needed to sign over the deeds to your house and the soul of your firstborn child.

zippitippitoes · 02/09/2008 12:48

but didnt people have awful experiences

PortAndLemon · 02/09/2008 12:49

(Can't afford £80 either, by the way, but having the email will remind me to look into the cheaper options...)

PortAndLemon · 02/09/2008 13:02

They were mixed rather than uniformly awful, zippi -- plenty of posters seemed to really enjoy it. It seemed to make a big difference how crowded it was (less crowded = happier posters) and to get much better as the season went on (hmm, that does rather suggest that my cheapskate mid-November plan may not be so great).

ChippyMinton · 02/09/2008 13:05

I'd sum up our experience as over-priced, but the children loved it and more importantly believed in it. Won't go again though, mainly because the adults got nothing out of it despite paying as much as the children.

PortAndLemon · 02/09/2008 13:13

Mind you, having checked their website it's a minimum of £55 a person this year (hot meal now included, but still...). And £10 for babies even though there's nothing for them to do...

Probably don't want the email after all, then.

theirmum · 02/09/2008 17:08

I know P&L its so much more expensive this year and £10 for a 8 month old is mental! btu you never know someone may still want to go

OP posts:
ChippyMinton · 02/09/2008 17:57

My sis and I were laughing about the 'meal included'. Last year a mulled wine was included. You know the thimble-sized plastic cup used when the supermarket is handing out free samples? That was what the mulled wine was served in. So the 'meal' is likely to be equally lillipution, I reckon.

theirmum · 02/09/2008 18:04

I was thinking somewhere along the lines of school dinner stylie xmas lunch

OP posts:
nicolamumof3 · 02/09/2008 18:08

we went last year, my dad took us all and the grandchildren, totally overrated and too expensive, not enough snow, wouldn't go again!! no facilities for babies either, to feed/change. didn't enjoy it unfortunately.

Flibbertyjibbet · 02/09/2008 18:11

c'mon somebody put a link to that mammoth thread where it was dubbed 'crapland UK'.
And the only people who were posting saying it was great appeared to be one of their marketing employees who kept namechanging.

It was the best last few pages of a thread I've read in ages.

So, er, that will be me NOT wanting the discount code thanks!

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 02/09/2008 18:13

ooh is Dorothy Laine-Fox going to reappear. I hope so!

Flibbertyjibbet · 02/09/2008 21:13

I was there on Friday, and it was just brilliant. Everything looks so real, snow falling from the sky, a magical tunnel transports you into a magical world, lots of ooohs and aaaahs. Lots of indoor activities, where the elves really interact with the kids. Lots of Husky hugs and kisses, big real reindeer, gingerbread decorating with Mrs Christmas, story telling and songs. Ice skating, the ice elves help out anyone who need help, giving the kids training and helping the kids ( and adults) who are a bit scared to skate lol.So much fun the kids don't want to leave!!!
There was a clip on BBC news.

Hi

If you go to the following links you will find media stories and footage of this years Lapland UK which is light years better then 2007.

I think last year was very good and I do not work for them as stated many times before, I just know someone who works there.

Dot
