waitrose vs tesco - shock!

this week i ordered my first waitrosedeliver order, I compared my tesco delivery bill with this waitrose bill for the same items.

tesco worked out as £64.88...waitrose as 62.75 for the same branded and own brand products. what was interesting was that the tesco prices were cheaper for most products but were they were more expensive (8 products) they were a LOT more expensive.

if i changed one branded product to an own brand product (babywipes) then the tesco bill did come down to £58.76

I did use the waitrose code for £15 off your first two shops for new customers....its save15

(and the delivery charge at tesco was only 25p cheaper but the waitrose frozen stuff was still frozen!)

it really surprised me how similar the prices were over a whole shop despite tesco trumpeting their value for money credentials. I didn't buy any of waitrose's expensive ready meals though maybe that's the rub?

Waitrose have just opened a new shop in our town yesterday. It is amazing it is soooo much nicer than tescos.I spent about 2 hours looking at everything..and so did the whole of my town,it was packed to the rafters!! the staff were absolutley super polite, and very helpfull. you walk in and you feel so relaxed, the food is great. a lot of thought has been put into our new shop even though I've been to our other local waitrose. and I'm so glad GREEDY Tescos have a bit of competition, they basically took the life out of our town..just for a comparison.I decided to head up to Tescos this afternoon. it was empty, the staff looked really miserable and I just went around and ended up buying 10 muller corners on offer. I looked at the meat on offer..all from the EU..vegetables shipped half way round the world(well at least 90%).and I just paid for my mullers and got out ASAP!! It was horrible.it actually felt like a discount store.nothing classy. now it's payback time Tescos, ripping customers off in our town for 5 years, shutting local farm shops down. I felt a wonderfull sense of shear relief and could not wait to get back to waitrose. which I did..it's like another world. It's not to pricey either.I'm no millionare, but I will be planning my meals and at least I know what I buy will not be put into the bin.I'm binning my clubcard also.I did shop in tesco a lot for a few months on a regular basis and I must have spent loads. and I ended up with nothing more than a few pounds worth of vouchers.it's not really working!! move over Tesco there is a new kid on the block.I like the feel, the quality and the choice of food on offer in waitrose.

I've been saying this for years. If you factor in that Waitrose mark down a lot of food with a day still left on the Best Before date (rather than on the day iyswim) plus you can fill your freezer: it works out really well. We don't buy ready meals except pies and fishfingers. The quality of the food is generally better than Tesco and the environment is about a million times nicer.
But apparently it is snobby and poncetastic to say all this. Well more fool a lot of you Smile

I can't handle Waitrose, I find myself standing still looking gormless as I try to convince myself to spend that much money. They are way more expensive for most of the things I buy so I only go there for treats now.
I did Ocado once with the £15 off and got some lovely stuff quite cheaply, but the basic basics were definitely more expensive. I ended up doing a real life Tesco shop to fill the gap.

I love Ocado. But they need a clubcard Grin I use ocado weekly and it's MUCH cheaper than the tesco/sainsbury online shop I used to do!
