How much savings do you have

Very personal post but I am just wondering what the average is that people have set aside for emergencies/'a rainy day' if anything at all?
I have recently had my first child and therefore gone back to work part time plus nursery fees plus shedding out for a wedding, plus house renovations and my savings have seriously taken a hit to the point I don't think I will have anything left this time next year and I'm panicking.
So how much would you get down to before you start to get twitchy?

I would personally like to have a minimum to cover at least three months worth of bills, rent/mortgage and other essentials.

I think everyone is different. I personally always like to keep at least 6months of mortgage, bills and food in my own account.

It's always good to know I have at least that so if anything happened to my DH, I can keep us.

Our plan (v loosely based on Dave Ramsey - but only because one of DH's colleagues used his plan to get out of debt and we liked the savings part), is:

  • £1500 emergency fund each (increasing to up to £2500 when we can) (this is currently all we have as savings we won't touch)
  • 3 months expenses (mortgage, bills, food) (eventually increasing this to 3 months of income) (then 6 months) (we have 3 months mortgage + bills excl food at the moment)

Our savings have also been hugely depleted by a wedding and buying a home/house renovations (still ongoing), and I'm pregnant - so I know the twitchy panic you're feeling! Luckily for us, DH has just been promoted, albeit not a huge increase. We've both taken second jobs to try and boost savings before baby. I wouldn't be able to relax if we didn't have the above, although I know we're obviously very fortunate to be able to have it.

We have about a year of bare minimum/ essential outgoings saved as I will be made redundant at some point and DH’s industry goes through lots of ups and downs job security wise.

We have about 30k put away and that would cover us for six to eight months if everything collapsed.

Not much comfort when you see it written down.

I'm pregnant and dealing with house renovations and dh has brexit job I security at we have a year's combined take home salary in a variety of investments / savings next we're a bit nervous.
