My 6 week old has been showing signs of reflux, so I went to the baby show as soemone told me a reflux expert was on.I listened with eagerness and some points were great. But when a mum asked Alison about the meds her baby was in, Alsison told her to take her off that one.Surely she can't offer medical advice ,she has no qualifications, medical or otherwise! I had a chat to a few Mums after and they felt the same.We decided to go and speak to Alison at her stand , that was until she we found out she was charging for 10minutes of her precious time! As a mum I need to know I am getting the best advice for my baby which is why I am going to see my GP and A paediatrician , not a person who is giving out dangerous medical advice, let's hope that no babies were made to suffer by following her advice at the show! :(

I think what concerns me as a night nanny is that she says in her book 'Sensational Baby Sleep Plan' that although the FSID guidelines are there for a reason it's OK to bend the rules slightly!!!

Absolutely no way as a night nanny would I ever suggest this, it's dangerous and I would never forgive myself if a baby in my care died because I decided it was OK not to follow the guidelines. The SID rates in the UK have dropped by 70% since the 'back to sleep' campaign started. I understand that lots of babies find it easier to self soothe on their tummies, but I would much rather spend the time as a night nanny gently reassuring babies and showing them how to sleep on their backs.

If a paediatrician were to suggest it was OK for you not to follow any of the guidelines then that's different.

I make sure that the parents of the babies I night nanny for know what the current FSID guidelines are and the reasons for them. If parents decide themselves that they don't want to follow any of them, I'm still happy to work with them but will ask them to sign a disclaimer on our contract.

Lisajok, there are lots of things you can do to help your baby while you're waiting to see a paediatrician. If you'd like to PM me your number, I'll call you with some suggestions. I'd be more than happy to help.
