Won't you consider 2nd hand and just buy a new mattress?

TotorosOcarina · 26/02/2011 18:55

I've got everything 2nd hand CG, every single thing, so was thinking i might splash out (kid of) on a new cot as it will be his for years :)

Ikea do some good ones for decent prices. Our Ikea cot did dd2, then the ds2 of a friend then our dd3 and is now under our bed. I won't let dh get rid of it - far too handy and about £30 I think!

having said that will prob end up with a 2nd hand one as I really don't like parting with money, haha

www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/categories/departments/childrens_ikea/18755/ here]] We spent about £60 on the mattress I think? Imo that's more important than the cot anyway.

I've heard some shocking things about cot quality - I've had 4 2nd hand over the years and they were great.

I recommend one with a one handed dropside option as they same to be sturdier built and don't rely on those tiny plastic catches that break easily if you lean on the cot side Blush and one that has a very high top level as it's very very useful when they are tiny to not to have to bother using the dropside thing you can just pop them in without having to lean over too much.

Really you only need 2 levels - high top level and very low bottom level............

Sometimes I think if you buy a cot 2nd hand you can see how sturdy it really is. I'm sure it was a few M&P ones that I've heard being slated - SIL had to bin hers after only 2 children neither of whom every climbed out etc!

Interstingly our first cot had a drop side but the IKea one didn't and I never missed it. JUst had it on high level when she was wee and then dropped it.

I'm short, with a bad back and huge dc - I so needed that drop cot otherwise I couldn't pick them up from the bottom level Grin They had sleeping bags and they didn't stand up in the cot for a long long time would sit up and wait for me.

Another thought is that a natural wood lasted longer in terms of looks as the white cots show dents more IYSWIM.

One of my cots had been through 2 dc then 3 of mine and I sold it afterwards...................
