Choosing between Battersea and Wimbledon prep schools

Hi. Need help in choosing my kid’s school. Kid is 4yo, doesn’t speak much English as we’re moving back to London from abroad, and we’re looking to move to either Battersea or Wimbledon depending on which prep school in the area would be the best option for my kids. (Only considering a coed school because of the younger sibling)

Could you please help out regrading:
Which area would be better to raise kids?
Which prep school would provide the best support for kids with EAL? (Strong emphasis on sports activities is a huge plus)

Thank you!

Wimbledon has I would say a bigger choice of prep schools right on the doorstep. Battersea has a couple of preps right in the area but others are a bit more of a journey away.

Wimbledon also has a bigger choice of good private secondary schools locally or easily reachable - I would take this into account unless you definitely intend to move before senior school or go boarding. I wish we had looked at secondaries and not just prep options.

Both areas have a sizeable international population, especially Battersea. I think you would need to look round the individual schools or at least speak to staff to find out how they are with EAL. It will be relatively rare to have a child starting who isn’t fluent in English (even though several may have it as their second language).

They have quite different vibes as places to live. Battersea is much more central and is a stone’s throw from Chelsea, it has smart mansion flats and Victorian terraces but also has some less smart pockets. It feels urban and like you live in central London. Wimbledon is more villagey, it has loads of green around, feels more spacious with way more detached or semi detached houses. It feels more like living in a smart market town or village which is attached to London (albeit very quick to go into town) rather than in London itself.

PS if sport is a big concern then Wimbledon is much more likely to have strong local sports clubs and facilities, as well as the schools having more space and grounds for sport,
