Can anyone share of any good news stories re waiting list movement post acceptance deadline?
I’ve been told it’s unlikely by the registrar at the school we’re waiting on, feeling sad.

Depends what school and what entry point I would say. I’ve heard for 11+ you could get a call right up to September

I guess if there are more private and grammar schools around there may be cases where one move can trigger 2 or 3 more, if you are in the sticks with few other options there will be less movement.

Really depends on the school and how in demand it is. Top school - highly unlikely.

Pre-prep school where several children will
leave after doing the 7 plus and getting offers from the top schools - likely.

sorry should’ve said for 11+ y7 entry

City of London School - anyone got any success stories of getting called back?

there will be movement as the waiting lists on state grammars start to move. Some local authorities have a second (and third) allocation of spots. So there may be some hoping for a spot at a top state school before giving up their spot on an independent.

Hi! DC got a firm offer from the WL from a super selective several weeks after the deadline. However, in DC’s case, the registrar didn’t say it was unlikely (as you mention above) - they were very non-committal either way.

Is your DC still on the WL? If so, are you able to understand more from the registrar (or via DC’s current school if at a prep) about why the registrar is saying it’s ‘unlikely’? I’ve never personally understood the dark arts of private school waiting lists, but if a DC were, for example, towards the bottom of a WL, I could see why a registrar would say this; otherwise, if I were them, I would be inclined to remain non-committal. As others have said, there are cases of waitlists moving right up until September (even a case that I heard of when a WL place was offered after the Autumn term had started).

Hi,
thank you so much.
I genuinely can’t tell if the registrar is being non commital to manage expectations or because there is no chance - and if the latter is the case then don’t keep on the WL?
and I agree, if it’s a case of his rank being so low that if the list was to move, he still wouldn’t get a space then why keep him on? Ideally, they would say they WL position. And I could also draw a line under it too.

its a minefield. But to be honest, mentally moving away now from the WL school as can’t keep thinking about this.

I guess it costs them nothing to continue a waiting list..

Autumn term fees due tomorrow and there’s been no movement. the only way it will move now is if a grammar school offers in the summer.
Time to move on I think 😢
