Any one of experience of either school? Completely torn. Live in Elstree so super close to Habs.

Habs is theoretically better than UCS academically and it's so close to you!. The journey to UCS in the morning from Elstree will be well over an hour at that time. That's like 4 hours commute a day for whoever is dropping him off. Facilities also better at Habs.

What makes you torn?

I love UCS but if you live near Habs why would you opt for the journey to UCS?

jdr1234 · 15/02/2026 21:49

The train is only 14 mins to West Hampstead then he would walk. We wouldn’t often go by car.
Reasons we are torn- UCS feels more relaxed, pastoral care from what I’ve heard is better than habs. From the data I have seen academically they are pretty much on par. Son is sporty and bright and he loves English, so feel like UCS might be a better fit?!

I would choose Habs if it’s really near. DD2 was at UCS and I’ve nothing against it, but it is nice to have local friends.

My two are very happy at UCS, and we think very highly of it - but then we live a short walk away. If we had been coming from Elstree I am pretty sure we would have gone with Habs. Both schools will provide fantastic opportunities, so ultimately the key differences will turn on where friends live, and the daily commute.

Mine went to Habs.. we are local. Will be nicer for your ds to have local friends. There’s no way from Radlett I’d chose UCS over Habs.

I would also go for Habs if I was already based in Elstree. Also, West Hampstead Thameslink station isn't that close to UCS - it's at least a 15 - 20 minute walk away (even for a fast walker) and includes having to cross the very busy Finchley Road. It's do-able, of course, but equally it's not a 5 minute walk from the station to the school.
