Hello,

Anyone here got experience of Lichfield Cathedral School? Is it likely to be financially secure.....looking for our daughter (Y7, 2027 start) but worried with the increase of private schools becoming financially no longer viable.

TIA

Hi - our son is currently in yr 6, and has been at LCS since yr 4. There have been comings and goings from his yr group, but overall numbers have been stable. I know the current yr 7 intake was as expected (numbers usually go up from two forms in yr 6 to 3 forms in yr 7). Then they had such high demand for yr 9 intake that they added a further form to this year's yr 9, and I was told last weekend that the same is likely to be happening his year too. I haven't examined the finances in great detail, but on that basis things feel ok. Given LCS is at the more affordable end of the scale compared to the other independent schools around, I wonder if VAT is actually meaning people choose it who might previously have gone to Denstone etc.

You're welcome - good luck to your daughter whatever you decide, and feel free to ask any other q's if I can help.

Picking up on this thread, my son has an offer here and we’re really undecided about it due to academic outcomes. We’re getting to the point we need to make a decision.
We really liked the feel of the school - our son has had a lot of issues with being pushed around in his short school career and our comprehensive secondary options are not great.
What did you decide, OP?

Hello , I am looking at Lichfield C S also comparing it to Highclare school where my daughter has received an academic scholarship. Would anyone have any experience with these schools and which is a better choice for an academic child? Thanks

we have just accepted my son‘s offer and he’s now really excited. Everyone seems lovely.
Im braced for the bills! Can I ask what regular extras there are?

Lovely that he's excited!

There aren't really many regular extras that are obligatory. For us it's 1:1 singing and drama lessons that are in addition to the basic fees, but that's our choice. I think the school are good at being clear and honest about what the costs are going to be, so there's never been anything unexpected so far.

Trips are the only thing that mounts up a bit - it's been mostly little day trips so far, but they do a PGL residential this yr (yr 6) and then yr 7 go on a residential to York in October so that will hit in the first term next yr. Not technically compulsory of course, but in practice I think almost everyone goes.

Uniform is a big outlay to start with too - but the second hand shop is worth checking out.

Hope that helps a bit!
