Private vs State - middle income earners

We are considering sending our child to private school but are concerned that we will be surrounded by really high income earners and our family won’t fit in. We live in a wealthy area but living in a modest home (currently renting soon to buy). We met some of the parents on the tour and they are all quite senior high income earners. Are we setting ourselves and our kid up for a negative experience?

My child went to private school. Not everyone is wealthy. There were girls on bursaries and scholarships.

Thank you. I feel like maybe because of the VAT that maybe families are not starting in reception like we were considering. Perhaps the more more middle income earners come later in the journey. Thanks for the reassurance.

If it’s just an independent day school (as opposed to public school/boarding) there’s a much higher chance of more ‘normal’ parents. At ours we have a wide mix - amongst the parents of my kids’ friends there are nurses, phone engineers, a blacksmith, physios, surveyors, an ecologist etc as well as the lawyers, bankers and accountants.

Agreed, our dc go to independent schools and we are middle class at best - our grade mostly have dual working professionals although there are maybe a few families who are genuinely wealthy. We have never felt different to other families
