I am surprised there hasn’t been a post about this. Fulneck school in Leeds due to close at the end of the academic year. Numbers had dwindled to 297. Of the 296, 21 have an EHCP and another 66 are on the SEN register. The school has been run since 1753. I have no idea how the children will be accommodated across Leeds and if there are alternative options available for the children with SEN.

A large brick building with cream painted windows on the school estate.

Fulneck School in Pudsey, Leeds, blames falling pupil numbers and rising costs for the decision.

Such a shame, I don't know anyone there but always enjoyed a walk around that area as it has such a long and interesting history.
I saw Woodhouse Grove was looking to support Fulneck pupils but no idea about SEN provision in the area

I used to live near the school. It is such a shame. There is so much interesting history and the road that the school is on is lovely.

They used to have different themed evenings in the little restaurant there. The little museum was interesting as well.

I once went to a flower festival held in the school. It really is a lovely building.

We used to walk down by the side of the school over to Tong.

I expect they will turn the building into flats.

Yes, people forget many children with SEN go to private schools not because parents are wealthy but because there is no other alternative.

DH was talking about it with sadness this morning. I'm not sure he knows it had such a focus on SEN. He grew up not far away from there.

I grew up not far from the school and had friends who went there for juniors before moving to BGGS. I don’t think it used to have such a strong SEN offering, it was always Woodhouse Grove that was known for excellent dyslexia support.

I believe they are arranging or have already arranged an open Day where reps from other Private Schools can attend so parents can meet them and see about transfers
In fact it might have been yesterday
