Incredible discounts & scholarships - generous or desperate?

There's a bit of talk on the town round by way (Guildford in Surrey) of some extraordinary goings-on.

From one 'girls' sixth form, that's trying to go co-ed offering almost free places for the boys to join.

To, scholarships wars between schools, that are upwards of 25% in some cases, and not for the very select few who would traditionally qualify, but for widespread numbers of DCs

Is this being seen across the County, South, the rest of Country?

Are these schools now of the mindset that 'a bit of some fees, is better than none at all', in times of difficulty for the sector, such as now.

I think it's a strategy with VAT coming in. Schools are a bit nervous to miss out as they have little to compare to. They are competing heavily across the board.

Can you say what the school is offering to take boys in…
I’m looking at schools at the minute in the Guildford area.
thanks

@Schoolsanightmare I can’t speak for OP, but it may be relevant that SWPS has announced a phased transition to co-education:

It is pretty typical for a school which is going co-ed or opening a new phase to offer some heavily discounted places as you need a core group to be able to persuade others that it is viable and so safe for them to send their DC there. Once you've got that core group, you can then take lots of photos to them doing wonderful things and plaster it all over your social media. But you do need that core group to be able to do that,

I have seen some exceptional discounts - sometimes with very good intentions. However do check the schools roll numbers, accounts with companies house/charities Commision. They could be an indication of something adverse.
