Truro High School for Girls

Hi, I’d be interested to hear from anyone with children at Truro High School for Girls. We’re considering it as an option for our daughter and wondered if anyone in the Mumsnet community has any experience of the school. Thanks!

We considered it. Got an offer,

Decided against it my DD wanted to stay with her friends elsewhere.

Not heard great things if I'm honest,

Depends on the child. I've heard of self harming, girls competing to be the most skinny. Girls can be vile.

It's small, if they fall out with their friendship group it can be a very lonely place.

For when your child is older - my DS went to Truro College and it was fantastic.

And free!

Hi @spottedinthewilds

Please can I ask for more context? My girls have been offered a place and we are strongly considering it. All the people we have spoken to seem happy there and the reviews, including the Good Schools Guide sell it as a very holistic place. As a writer for the GSG myself, I am curious as to where this information has come from. Worried as it is the first I have heard of it.

@Borris please can you let me know your experience? My DDs would be going into Y10 and Y8.

We live opposite Truro High but as a boy mum we don't have children at the school. However, we know plenty of people whose children go there and our children also have their swimming lessons on site. Everything I have heard of the school is excellent and every time we see girls attending the school on campus when we visit for swimming lessons or out and about (either on school outings with staff or by themselves/in group walking to school) they are all extremely smiley, polite and come across as just the kind of girls I'd want my children to mix with. I have never once witnessed anyone being nasty or any kind of bullying which can so often happen right outside school grounds (I witness this a lot around Truro College which also gets excellent reviews but behaviour wise it's just a completely different level).

If I had girls and private school was an option I wouldn't hesitate to send them there. Not sure if you're local or looking to move to Cornwall but Truro is a great little city as well. Plenty of things for kids/teenagers to do after school as they get older, great transport links, super close to both the north and south coast. It's such an ideal base. Lots of great houses on the market that are good value for money, especially if you're comparing with coastal areas or coming from outside of Cornwall.

Hope this helps!
