TGS-Tonbridge Grammer School

I have already gotten my daughters Kent test results and she got 343. she was surprised she's passed the test with that score for she thought it would be hard. But that's not the point. what I want to make sure is if she'll get a place or even has a chance.Tonbridge grammar school is one of her first options but we've put on other grammar schools in Kent too. Despite the fact that she's despising all of them except TGS. ik that TGS has catchment area and were ready to move. But people ik got 370 and was in the catchment area but wasn't offered a place somehow? Considering there's a big gap between 370-340, we're puzzled.

So it will be helpful if you could share what your daughters gotten of her Kent test. or if there's anyone you know who's gotten into TGS and what their score might've been. many thanks.

No chance of TOGS on that score. What other schools have you put down?

Cut off usually around the 380 mark each year. It does vary year on year but no chance with her score I’m afraid. Hopefully you put Weald and TWGGS down, assuming you’re in catchment for either? Plus Comprehensive options?

Check the school's entrance criteria.

Each school has its own, some selective schools' are purely distance based provided the test is passed, others are super selective and give priority to higher scores over distance.

There tends to be far more competition to get into the north Kent schools given proximity to London.

You will have already submitted your list of selected schools' why are you asking this now? Assuming it's just nerves until the school places come out (March?).

You can appeal to any of the school's you have selected should things not go as hoped.

Firstly well done to you daughter, she did very well and should be proud of herself. Realistically TGS isn't an option for her but it's so important to help her see that not getting a place isn't a failure it's just a sign that it isn't the right environment for her. TGS is a great school but it is super selective and the pace reflects that. Even the brightest girls who scored well in excess of 400 aren't top in everything. There is a lot of testing and it could be quite a stressful experience for all but the most academic.

Big up the other options, go and have another look round the other grammars you put down and be enthusiastic about them. Your attitude towards each school will have an impact on how she feels about them. Good luck.
