Senior school in South West for creative autistic girl

DD is struggling at her current school with the academic demands and general expectations. She is bright and sociable but has no interest in the academic subjects, preferring art and drama, and would live in the library reading given half a chance. She needs a slow-paced, less academic school with plenty of physical, creative activities, individual sports, small class sizes, support to break things down. Bonus points for animals on site, outdoor time and no school uniform.
Does such a school exist?

Isn’t the Outdoors School down that way?

It’s hard to tell how far you would like to stray from the mainstream system but they are definitely outdoorsy and cater for autism ( albeit that’s a huge group of varying needs) from what I’ve heard.

We don't have an EHCP so wouldn't get a place at specialist schools, and our paediatrician has advised they aren't the right setting for her. She is capable of doing a GCSEs but i suspect the 9 that school currently expects will be too much, especially if there is no more support. She is an 'inbetweener'.

Where in south west? Sands at Ashburton?

TwirlyCurlyWhirly · 16/11/2024 21:13

We could potentially move, so anywhere between Devon and the Cotswolds.

I've not heard of sands before, that looks like an interesting approach.

My friends DD, who has autism, attends The Levels School in Ashcott, Somerset & is doing well there.

Kevicc in Totnes? It has a reputation for being creative and artsy, and Totnes generally is very inclusive.
or there’s a Steiner school in Exeter, very outdoorsy. It previously had issues with safeguarding but has renamed and seems ion best behaviour for now…
