Kew College Prep / other Richmond/East Sheen preps

Hello,

We are moving into the East Sheen area and looking for private schools for our 3 year old.

Has anyone been through the meeting at Kew College Prep? Is it truly a non-assessment/non-selective meeting? What is the pastoral care like at the school? Our child seems bright but is sensitive and reserved so this side of things is important.

If any other preps in the area sound like they could be a good fit, please do suggest them!

Thank you in advance

I would agree with the above on the quality of state schools, both primary and secondary, in the borough of Richmond. People move to the borough and pay a premium for housing because of the excellent schools that we have. Unfortunately it doesn’t currently start until Yr1, but Radnor House Prep is worth looking at too and fits your description. I have a child there.

Perhaps try going to some open days to get a feel for the different schools? I would recommend Kings House. It also has a nursery.

We really love Kew College. We also have a DS who is bright but sensitive, and it's been the perfect environment for him. Yes, the state schools in the area are excellent, and we visited some really lovely ones when selecting a school. Something we liked quite a bit about Kew College was that it FELT like a state school in a lot of ways (unpretentious, diverse, and modern ethos), but also maintained small class sizes and a calm environment. In our experience, they have tailored the curriculum to encourage our DS's strengths and feed his curiosity.

And no, the entrance was not selective.

My friend’s DC went there and thought Kew College was excellent. However she was in Chiswick and I would not consider taking on that journey from East Sheen as Chalkers Corner under huge pressure due to closure of Hammersmith Bridge.

Instead I recommend the same as previous posters. Either look at the excellent state primaries in the area or King’s house which is in Richmond but East Sheen side of Richmond and has a nursery.
