Is this a problem and if so, how do I deal with it?

My 6 year olds report is much better than my 9 year olds. I haven't decided if they are going to read their reports yet, but not each others. How can I praise dd without ds1 feeling rubbish, especially as dd is quick to answer when we ask ds1 or ds2 a question. She knows she is brighter than them and I don't want ds1 knowing it too obviously.

Higher levels, or better comments? I pointed out to DD that DS had always got As for effort and she hadn't, but I didn't say that her level in Maths was higher than his had been in year 1.

Both.

DD has above average for everything except speaking, she is shy at speaking in class at times.

They know which maths group each other is in but that is all.

Dont let them read them then. I have the same situation as you, 6 yr old is brighter than 9 yr old and is way ahead of her at the same point; however we would keep levels to ourselves and heap praise on them for all that they have individually achieved this year. (9 yr old knows that little sister is clever ,but just how clever she need not know as far as I am concerned)
