Hi, my daughter has just finnished reception at a private school and has had her first propper end of school year report.
She is developmentaly delayed by about 18 months.
Each subject is graded A,B,C,D,E for achievement. Then 1,2,3,4 for effort.
She has mostly C's and B's for all subjects with one A for music. All her subjects are either 1 or 2 for effort, so Excelent or good.
Do other schools have this grading system, and what does it mean? She has a developmental delay, so does this mean she's not actually behind ?
It dosn't make a great deal of sence to me, so if anyone could shead some light on this, I'd be greatful.

DS had these grades on his report recently - I think they meant

A - achieving above expectations for group
B - achieving the expectations
C - working towards the expectations

Ours only went to C so not sure what your D and E mean.

Ask the teacher if you want to check - ours did have an explanation at the bottom which I think yours should have had too.

Hi, yes ours said A= excellent, B= good, C= averadge and E= below averadge.

This would mean that she's not behind in anything, when she has been acessed by a team of people as having a developmental delay. If they are right and she's now up to speed, I'd be delighted! but I'm not too convinced.

If C is the middle, I would guess that the letter grade C (for achievement, yes?) means that she has reached the expectations set out at the beginning of the year. (This is usually two sublevels per year, I think.) Your school should be able to explain futher!

Our private school uses this

Attainment

Postion in class

A - Top 20%
B - Next 20%
C - Middle 20%
etc

Effort

A - Consistently goes the extra mile
B - Sometimes does above what is required
C - Does what is required
D - Not consistently doing what is required
E - Consistently can't be arsed

Personally I tell my dc I want to see only A and B (preferably As) for Effort, C come on you can give a bit more.

Position in class if they got an A for effort but an E for position would be concerned in case there is something I can do to help them. Any position C or higher as long as effort is A/B am not concerned at all.

You need to check whether they have graded her according to the general expectations of her year group or against specific targets for her. Private schools don't necessarily follow the NC levels but have they done a Foundation Stage evaluation as that might give you a better indication in relation to the Early Years curriculum and help you prusue a statement, support etc?

Dd and ds's private school use A B C D E for attainment and 12345 for effort.

Attainment

A = Very Good
B = Good
C = Satisfactory
D = Weak
E = Very Weak

Effort

1 = Very Good
2 = Good
3 = Satisfactory
4 = Poor
5 = Very Poor

Ours is similar to ios althoguh don't think they use the term "weak"
