Hello everyone. I've namechanged for personal reasons, so sorry for that.

Does anyone know anything about Allfarthing primary school? What is it like for children? What is the "feel" of the school? Does it do lots of music and art? Is it a happy place?

Oh ... and does it have an after-school care programme?

I've done a search but v. little comes up, and nothing about what its like as an experience for children, its "ethos", and so on, which is the information I'd really like to have.

Many thank yous for reading this.

I know there is a new head who has come from a small Richmond school- have you tried the school profile on directgov?

southoftheborder · 05/07/2010 00:23

Thank you for replying deaddei, you are lovely.

Yes, I knew about the new Head, though nothing about where she'd been before.

I have looked at lots of written bits and pieces, and I visited a while ago (and met the old Head). I suppose what I'm hoping someone can tell me is ... ... the sort of thing that the written reports don't say. Or maybe what I mean is, what becomes clearer when your dc attend the school.

Erm.

Is it friendly (for the children)? Do they still do a fair bit of music and art? Have you heard anything about what it's like? i suppose I'd like to hear from a human, rather than an official report. Though that's slightly silly.

And again, deaddei, thank you for replying. I've noticed you often take pity on the languishing threads of S. London, and I'm very, very grateful for that.

Oh someone has noticed me on MN-I've made it!
I am actually visiting the school on Friday through work, so can give some first impressions then.

deaddei · 05/07/2010 07:06

Oh -have you tried posting on the nappyvalley website?
Might be worthwhile as it's specifically for Wandsworth and between the commons.

southoftheborder · 05/07/2010 10:28

@ "noticed/arrived". Yes, I definitely recognise you. It is funny how that happens, isn't it? Like living in a local area, and spotting someone at the shop, and the post office, and eventually saying "hello" over the onions/cans of tomatoes, maybe.

I've posted on nappyvalley, thank you for the suggestion, I hadn't thought of that.

I'd be thrilled at any observations you have, post-Friday.

And thanks again.

Well, Deaddei, looks as though my allfarthing request over there (on the nappyvalley site) is languishing ... .

But, oh my goodness!!!! The education discussion board is mighty ... "robust". There must be an mn cross-over ... .

Yes, robust is a good word.
It is very private school orientated, or Belleville/Honeywell catchment area.
I will post on Friday.

My DS went to the nursery. It was excellent. We moved, so didn't go on to reception.

southoftheborder · 08/07/2010 22:56

Thank you, londonartemis. Hope your move went well.

Well I was only there an hour but really liked it!
Very buzzy, seemed to be a thriving PTA...polite children, nice dh and PSHE teacher.
Seemed more "middleclass" than some other schools in the area- but I got a good feel.
Have you looked on Directgov.uk for their school profile?

southoftheborder · 09/07/2010 19:46

Thank you deddei. Yes I have looked at directgov but i wanted to here from an mn-er. don't really know why ....

I don't suppose you know anything about Beatrix Potter, so you?

(The questions never cease ... .)

Oh, and I hope your work went well. it was mightily warm today.

Never been to BP but it is seemingly quite middle class, compared to say Earlsfield which is down the road (and fab btw).
Great head.

southoftheborder · 09/07/2010 20:34

Yes, i had the impression allfarthing had a lot of energy when I visited. Very creative, but combined with a striking attention to detail. That's quite something to achieve in a school. Lots of imagination but also attention to the nuts and bolts.

I think I was walking around it when it suddenly hit me that truly great Heads (and I guess the teachers) are very gifted people. It was like a complex, intricate and creative artefact, made of living parts. But, hey, that was just my impression, and I'm no teacher, child, or parent.

Schools are so very different aren't they?

anyway - don't feel you have to reply to this - you've been lovely replying. Many thanks.
