Varies by school from what I know.

Best practice these days seems to be to make it fairly similar to reception with play-based learning but really you'd need to ask the school to know for sure.

There is a huge leap in what they are expected to do in Y1 at DS1&2s school.

Reception is play based and Y1 was learning thru being taught rather than learning disguised as play.

There has been more written work needed this year for DD, which she struggled a bit with.

They do still do some painting/playing/drawing and use the workshop, but it is more task focused.

DS is in Year 1. He has definitely done more writing this year but still done a lot of play as well. It does vary from school to school exactly how the curriculum is delivered.

There is still a lot of play at DS's school but it is not free choice (e.g. they have 20 minute to spend at activity X and can't choose not to do it or spend more or less time there).

Teaching is more in the "teacher teaches something and then class goes off and does some work to consolidate what they've learnt" vein (so more sitting, listening and applying that Reception).
