Today I asked my child's school teacher when parent day was this term. We haven't had a parents evening since early feb. She said there wasn't one and we would get a report in the summer holidays. Is this rather odd. I feel my child needs extra support and would have liked to discuss her progress socially and acadamically. She's in reception but very able -end of stage 8 reading and fluent, starting to free read. Her writting is amazing as is her spelling and maths. You might wonder why I'm worried and it's because socially she seems to find the 5 ( yes only 5! ahh) girls in her class difficult. She is very focused and driven and this has caused difficulties in sports but she now swims and does ballet with y1/y2 and this seems fine.
She keeps saying the other girls are naughty in school and aggrevate her. I want her to fit in and would have welcomed a parent / teacher discussion on how things were going. What is the norm for parent feedback?

Why not just contact your child's teacher and ask to arrange an appointment. The time slots at Parents' evenings are often quite short so if you want to have a longer discussion it would probably be best to arrange a separate time anyway. Hope it all goes well.

We had a Parent's Evening in Feb too and won't be due another until DS is in the next school year so sounds pretty normal to me.

However, at our school you can talk to the teacher or Head Teacher almost anytime, if it isn't convenient right then, or you would like some privacy they will simply make you an appointment.

You should ask her teacher for a little time for a discussion.

Also, have you tried having the girls over one by one for tea or a just a play?

Think one in Autumn and one mid Spring term is fairly standard. In Reception we also got one to go through the EYFS levels towards end of summer term. You can always ask for a word in between if you have specific concerns.

We had one in each term, although the last one was very informal and chilled out - and was after the reports had gone out so were simply to discuss any issues raised in them.
