Cheaper than the numicon site? I only want the home kit, it comes up a £33ish on there, theres no sets at all on ebay.

I looked elsewhere a while ago with no luck. Think I might just save up for a bit and get it directly, it seems fairly reasonable for what you get.

Yeah, I think so too. DS uses it alot in reception and DS2 is starting september and I'd like to start with him before he goes as he is not as confident as DS1.

woud it be really bad to use DS2s birthday money?

ooh so you already know a bit about it, does DS1 enjoy using it then? I've no experience of using it but it looks fab. I like the fact each number has its own 'shape' - that's how I visualise numbers sometimes.

hmm, birthday money, it depends if he'd know he was missing out on an actual toy, IYSWIM!

Yes they use it in school, we went to a 'maths hour' the other day and was shown how it would be used. The kids loved it and could recognise the number by the shape straight away. You can also over lap them to show taking away and difference and put them next to each other to add up.

There pegs too but not sure what they are for yet

Think I'm going to order it.

if it's not too cheeky to ask, please post when you get it to let us know what the home kit is like! £30+ is a lot to us right now but I reeeeeally want to buy it...

Disenchanted3 · 24/06/2010 09:32

Yes I will.

I've got the home kit for my 3 year old (starts reception this year) and am really impressed. He likes it and it is worth it.

He does things like put 2 shapes together and say "look they are the same,3 and 3 are the same as 6".He also adds say 1 onto a 5 shape and sees that is the same as 6.It just clicks easily to understand.

I think it'll be great for my DD (3 yesterday!) - she's definitely a physical/kinaesthetic learner. things like colours and shapes have only really sunk in when she's had an actual toy like button boards etc, rather than just looking at it in a book etc.
