Inset days....again!

I was dismayed to learn that my son's primary school has suddenly added on 3 inset days to the end of the summer holidays. I have no annual leave left, no family locally and by then I will have surely run out of favours with friends & neighbours. Why do schools never consult with parents about how we prefer inset days to be allocated? (ie in blocks added to holidays or randomly scattered throughout the year?) Schools expect so much support from parents, yet they make decisions that impact on childcare without the slightest attempt at consultation. Apart from a general moan, does anyone out there have experience of a school that really tries to actively consider the needs of working parents (for inset days, attending daytime performances and assemblies, etc)?

Well I'm positively aged and teachers had training days when I went to primary school Hmm

I doubt any new teachers leave the profession because of training days many leave because of lack of training.

I think Zarbi had possibly got over it since July 2010 - though I could be wrong Grin.

And this:
I can still follow comments and thanks for getting it removed - well done ;) it's great having fair comments and debates on teachersnet.

is fairly hollow thanks, really.

Just getting to the level of the rest of the group really Feenie, it's like a witch hunt on here!!

mrz · 20/09/2011 21:54

It was lucky you stumbled over such an old thread really Hmm

mrz · 20/09/2011 21:56

Zarbi only made three posts ... (well under the name Zarbi)

dddangermouse · 20/09/2011 21:57

Not surprised!! not sure I'd bother the Primary education board again!

mrz · 20/09/2011 22:03

It's a pity they didn't stick around for the resurrection really

Feenie · 20/09/2011 22:08

Maybe you should try Flouncers' Corner?

dddangermouse · 20/09/2011 22:21

haa haa Feenie - not a chance sorry, far to many nice people on here to be flouncing. have fun!

SoupDragon · 21/09/2011 11:41

"Soupdragon - I posted to say thanks to you all - for pointing out the facts"

That doesn't actually answer the question though, does it? you were originally complaining about having to find childcare to cover inset days which you thought were taken out of term time (Childcare for children you then claim you never said you had, which is odd). Given that it doesn't come out of term time and you would require childcare anyway, what is the problem?

SoupDragon · 21/09/2011 11:41

Not that I care, actually.

CaptainNancy · 21/09/2011 12:07

ddangermouse- red tape is not the same as training.

Why don't you start a thread about bureaucracy in teaching if that's an opinion of yours? I'm sure you'd find a lot of support.

Feenie · 21/09/2011 17:24

Nope, epetition links are fine according to MNHQ - I queried a equally barking spelling one.

So, am guessing it must have been deleted because of the general abuse, then.

CaptainNancy · 21/09/2011 23:55

it may have been someone in a red cap that reported it... mainly because I think this zombie thread was only dragged up to drum up support for their ropey old petition
