Homework!

Dd1 is 9 and in year 4 at a state primary. She doesn't get an awful lot of homework compared to some schools, she gets English, Maths, spellings and times tables once a week. Given out on Friday to be handed in on Wednesday.

She has recently started having a tutor to help her a bit with Maths (has the ability but no confidence) and, later on, in preparation for 11+ exams. He gives her quite a bit of homework.

The problem is, the homework has become a bit of an issue. I have to nag her/help organise when she's going to do it etc. She does ballet and brownies after school and of course she needs plenty of time to relax/play etc as well. I would like her to be more organised and get the homework done without me having to nag her.

She is my oldest so this is all new to me! How organised and reliable should you expect a 9 year old to be? Sometimes I'm tempted to back off and let her suffer the consequences for not doing it but it's a waste of money to pay for a tutor and then don't do the homework!

I've thought of deciding on a set time of day for her to do it, but then sometimes it doesn't happen. Or not allowing tv till it's done, but that seems a bit mean after a long day at school - kids need a bit of wind-down time. So any ideas?

Nine year olds aren't big on homework and do need nagging. I'd question how much homework is needed though at that age.
